The Toronto Police Service has reportedly charged notorious homophobe Bill Whatcott for Public Incitement of Hatred, aka hate speech. Whatcott infiltrated Toronto Pride under a fake name in 2016 to hand out ‘anti-sodomy’ pamphlets.
Whatcott was also the subject of a 2013 Supreme Court case which upheld Canada’s hate speech laws as constitutional. He says he will be surrendering himself to Calgary police on Friday. Whatcott’s supporters are planning a demonstration at the courthouse in the coming days.
The Canadian Anti-Hate Network welcomes this news and we look forward forward to further details of the charge. Thank you to Harry Abrams from Victoria and @ARCCollective for the information.
